Google Puts Gemini At The Centre Of New Home Speaker
Google has launched its new Google Home Speaker in Australia, with the new device arriving as the company’s first audio product built specifically for Gemini for Home.
The speaker, priced at $199 in Australia, brings Google’s Gemini voice assistant into the smart home, allowing users to issue more natural commands, ask follow-up questions and control connected devices without relying on rigid phrases.
Google says Gemini can understand multi-step requests, corrections and more conversational prompts.
Users can ask it to dim lights, play music and set a timer in a single command, or correct themselves mid-sentence.
The device also comes with 10 new natural-sounding voices and advanced microphone processing designed to help Gemini better understand users in different home environments.

Google is bundling six months of Google Home Premium with purchases made on or before September 30. The subscription unlocks Gemini Live, which allows more free-flowing conversations, as well as smart-home features including Camera History Search and Home Briefs for Nest camera users.
Once the trial ends, users retain access to a more basic version of Gemini, while premium features require a paid subscription. Google lists the Standard plan at $15 a month or $150 a year.
On the audio side, Google claims the speaker delivers 360-degree sound, a driver twice the size of the Nest Mini and 2.5 times stronger bass. Two speakers can also be paired with a Google TV Streamer for spatial surround sound.
The speaker works with Nest speakers, Nest displays and Google Cast-enabled devices for multi-room audio.
It comes in porcelain and hazel colours locally, is made from 37% recycled materials by weight and includes a physical microphone mute switch.
