Dell Launches Affordable XPS 13 As Competition Heats Up In Education Market
Dell has officially released its latest XPS 13 laptop, bringing the device to online retailers and physical stores after confirming last month that availability would begin in June. The notebook enters the market as one of the company’s more affordable offerings, with pricing starting at A$917 for students and A$1,070 for other buyers.
The arrival of the new XPS 13 comes shortly after Apple introduced the MacBook Neo, a lower-cost model aimed squarely at the education sector. Designed with students and teachers in mind, the MacBook Neo has already generated considerable interest and received positive early impressions.
Apple has also secured a significant education contract, supplying more than 4,500 MacBook Neo units as part of an agreement with Kansas City Public Schools. The deal highlights the company’s growing presence in classrooms and demonstrates the demand for affordable laptops tailored to educational use.

Dell’s latest release positions the company to compete more directly in the same segment. By offering a lower-priced version of its premium XPS range, Dell is seeking to attract schools, educators and students looking for capable hardware without the higher cost typically associated with flagship laptops.
With both manufacturers now targeting similar customers, the coming months could provide a clearer picture of how well Dell’s strategy resonates with educational institutions. Apple’s early momentum in the sector sets a high benchmark, but Dell’s established reputation in business and education computing could help it gain traction among buyers seeking an alternative option.
