Google Activates Pixel Visual Core For Social Media Apps
Google is releasing its Pixel Visual Core for image based social media apps on its Pixel 2 smartphone, a custom designed co-processor which the company says will enhance photos for social media apps such as Instagram and Snapchat.
It will be available on the new Pixel February update.
Google says the technology was always available in the main Pixel 2 camera app.
In a post Google says, “Using computational photography and machine learning (which powers Pixel’s HDR+ technology), Pixel Visual Core improves image quality in apps that take photos. This means it’ll be easier to shoot and share amazing photos on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat, along with many other apps which use the Pixel 2 camera. All you need to do is take the photo and Pixel 2 will do the rest.”
Pixel Visual Core has been created to do intense image processing while using less power, saving on a user’s battery.
Pixel Visual Core also runs RAISR, which means zoomed-in shots look sharper and more detailed than ever before.
The updates will rolling out over the week with other Pixel software improvements. Other updates include new AR stickers themed around winter sports.
