Gong Awarded To IT Exec In Queen’s Birthday Honours

VMware executive Philip John Cornish has become a member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the telecommunications sector and to the community.

Cornish (right) is currently director of strategy and business at VMware, according to his LinkedIn profile and a former executive at Cisco Systems, where he was A/Pac director of enterprise networks.  He has also worked with Nokia and before that Alcatel Australia.

West Australian academic Professor Tele Tan has also been recognised for his work in developing facial recognition software.

Currently at the John Curtin University in WA, Tan has also been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia.

The Meritorious Medal of Australia, awarded mostly to public servants, has been given to Matthew Frederick Hay for outstanding public service in the application of contemporary online services, core technology platforms, and IT systems for the Australian Taxation Office.
