Oppo has begun rolling out its latest ColorOS 16 update, introducing new personalisation tools, camera filters and performance improvements across selected Find and Reno smartphones.

The July update adds customisable fingerprint unlock icons and animations, allowing users to mix and match different visual styles for the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Oppo has also introduced a preview function for Contact Posters, enabling users to check and customise how a contact’s image and details will appear before assigning the design to incoming calls.

The native Camera app has gained two filters called Primrose and Bold B&W. Primrose is intended to give photos a warmer appearance, while Bold B&W offers a higher-contrast monochrome effect without requiring a third-party editing application.

However, some of the most noticeable changes may come from ColorOS 16’s system-level refinements.

Oppo said it has improved the transition animations used when launching applications and switching between them through the Recent Tasks screen, aiming to make everyday navigation and multitasking feel smoother.

Face Unlock now supports a backup face profile, allowing users to register a secondary appearance. This could improve recognition when a user is wearing glasses, makeup or has otherwise changed their appearance.

The release also includes broader stability fixes, responsiveness improvements and performance optimisations.

The ColorOS 16 July update is being distributed in phases to the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, Find X9s, Find X9 Pro, Find X9, Reno15 Pro 5G, Reno15 5G, Reno14 Pro 5G and Reno14 5G.

The initial announcement relates to Oppo devices in India. The company has not confirmed when every feature will reach Australia. Availability may differ depending on the model, region and carrier.

The update arrives as Oppo’s ColorOS platform takes on greater significance across the company’s wider smartphone ecosystem, with reports indicating future OnePlus and Realme devices could also move closer to the software platform under upcoming Android 17 updates.
