Fujifilm has unveiled the Instax Mini Evo Cinema, a hybrid instant camera that can shoot short videos while still printing Instax photos.

The camera will launch in Japan on January 30, though pricing and wider availability are yet to be confirmed.

Unlike traditional Instax models, the Mini Evo Cinema lets users capture up to 15-second video clips. A single press of its shutter takes a photo, while holding it records video.

Still frames from the footage can then be printed as Instax photos, complete with QR codes that link to the video online. Videos are uploaded through Fujifilm’s mobile app, where they remain accessible for up to two years.

The camera’s design is a nostalgic nod to the Fujica Single-8 8mm film camera of 1965, with a slim, vertical body reminiscent of classic Super 8 camcorders.

The standout feature is the ‘Eras Dial’ which applies 10 different decade-inspired effects to video footage, ranging from the grainy look of 1960s 8mm film to the saturated colours of 1970s CRT TVs. Effects also modify audio, sometimes adding mechanical shutter sounds or other retro touches.

The Mini Evo Cinema retains core Instax functionality, including the ability to wirelessly print photos from smartphones.

It features a 28mm equivalent lens, f/2.0 aperture, onboard LED light and stereo microphones, though full sensor and resolution details have not been disclosed.
