Foxtel has landed its biggest-ever Business iQ deployment, signing a multi-year deal with Fortescue to upgrade 11,500 screens across 11 remote mining villages in Western Australia.

The rollout will deliver live sport, on-demand entertainment and internal communications services to more than 10,000 FIFO workers, with content streamed via Foxtel’s satellite network in up to 4K Ultra HD.

Workers will gain access to AFL, NRL, cricket, Formula 1, Supercars and UFC events, alongside Foxtel’s entertainment library, in both accommodation rooms and shared community spaces.

Foxtel says the project is designed to improve worker wellbeing and connectivity in some of Australia’s most isolated mining operations.

“Fortescue’s very remote workforce will be the most connected and best entertained mining employees in Australia,” said Steve O’Connor, managing director of retail, wholesale and commercial at Foxtel Group.

The deployment highlights a broader trend across the resources sector, with mining companies investing heavily in digital infrastructure and onsite amenities to improve workforce retention and living standards in FIFO camps.

Technology partner ADB, through its vuTyme platform, and installation provider BSA will support the accelerated rollout.

Foxtel Business iQ is already deployed in more than 60,000 commercial rooms nationally.
