Facebook analysed location ‘check-ins’ in 25 cities around the globe and found sporting arenas, public parks/gardens were the most popular landmark with millions of Facebook users check-in to.
In Melbourne the top 5 landmarks check-in were: Crown Casino, followed by Chadstone Shopping Centre, Docklands Stadium (Etihad Stadium), Rod Laver Arena, while St Kilda Beach came in 5th.
Globally, landmarks like Avenue des Champs-Ã‰lysÃ©es in Paris and Rome’s Spanish Steps and concert arenas like the O2 in London and Dublin were popular check-ins.
Sports arenas like the massive Camp Nou Barcelona and Aukland Eden Park, and amusement parks like Johannesburg’s Gold Reef City, Moscow’s Gorky Park, and Seoul’s Lotte World were also among Facebookers favourites.
And Melbourne’s Queen Victoria market also came up as a prominent Facebook check in landmark , although there was no data for other cities in Oz.
Other popular global check-ins were Sao Paolo’s Mercado Municipal, Seoul’s Dongdaeum Restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafes in Buenos Aires, Delhi and Barcelona, TGI Fridays in Norway, and Bella Paulista Casa de Paes in Sao Paulo.
|Cities with warmer climates like in Oz had more check-ins to outdoors spots, like St. Kilda Beach in Melbourne and the Wynyard Quarter wharf in Auckland, while in colder climes like Moscow, the most popular slots belong to bars and clubs.
Music festivals like Glastonbury and Lollapalooza were among the top summer check-ins.
