Exclusive: Vodafone To Be First Oz Carrier To Range New Nokia Phones
Following their initial launch into JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman, ChannelNews has learned that Vodafone will be picking up and ranging HMD Global’s new Nokia smartphones.
“Vodafone is pleased to be partnering with HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones. The introduction of Nokia will add a new dimension to our portfolio,” a spokesperson from the telco confirmed.
“We look forward to a great working relationship with the Nokia team,” they said.
After announcing their acquisition of the rights to the Nokia brand last year, Finnish startup HMD Global unveiled the new Nokia 3, 5 and 6 for the Australian channel in June before launching them in July.
The Nokia 3, the entry-level device, features a MediaTeK 6737 quad-core CPU and 2GBs of RAM. With a 5-inch IPS LCD display and pair of 8-megapixel cameras.
The Nokia 5 sweetens the deal by swapping in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 and bumping the screen size and front-facing camera up to 5.2-inches and 13-megapixels respectively.
Lastly, the Nokia 6 weighs in with a 5.5-inch display, 3GBs of RAM and a 16-megapixel shooter. It also expands the 16GB internal storage found in the rest of the range to 32GB.
With a retail RRP of $249, $329, $399, the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 come in at a price-point that’s designed to tempt consumers back to the once-great brand.
However, it’s unknown at this time what plans or bundles will be on the table for the devices if bought through Vodafone.
Expect more specifics to emerge in the coming weeks.
HMD Global is expected to officially unveil and announce local availability for their first flagship offering later this month.
Florian Seiche, who has acted as President since the company’s founding, has taken up the mantle of CEO in the interim.
