US audio manufacturer Emotiva has unveiled the BasX TA2+, a new stereo receiver designed to anchor modern two-channel hi-fi systems while maintaining the simplicity of traditional receivers.

The company says the TA2+ is built for users who want a single component capable of powering speakers, handling multiple audio sources and integrating with a TV, without the complexity of a full home-theatre system.

At its core, the BasX TA2+ combines a preamp, DAC, FM tuner and integrated amplifier in one chassis. The Class A/B amplifier delivers 135 watts per channel into 8 ohms and up to 250 watts into 4 ohms, providing enough headroom to drive a wide range of speakers in stereo or 2.1 setups.

The new model replaces the 2023 BasX TA2 and introduces several connectivity upgrades aimed at modern living room systems. Key additions include HDMI ARC for direct TV connection, USB-C input for computers and portable devices, and balanced XLR inputs and outputs, along with a balanced subwoofer output for improved bass integration.

Digital connectivity includes coaxial and optical inputs, Bluetooth streaming and a built-in 24-bit/192 kHz DAC, while analogue sources are supported via RCA line inputs and a phono stage compatible with both moving-magnet and moving-coil turntables.

Emotiva President Dan Laufman said the receiver was designed to offer flexibility without the complexity often found in network-based amplifiers.

“The BasX TA2+ is the heart and soul of a high-performance stereo system. We designed it to be a simple, robust solution for anyone ready to improve their listening experience, no matter what sources are connected,” Laufman said.

Unlike many modern receivers, the TA2+ does not include built-in streaming or multi-room capabilities, positioning it as a more traditional hi-fi component aimed at users who prefer dedicated sources such as turntables, TVs or external streamers.

The Emotiva BasX TA2+ is priced at US$1,299. Australian availability has not yet been confirmed.
