Samsung Planning Folding Screen Smartphone For 2015
Samsung is set to incorporate the technology into a handset available for consumers by the end of 2015, tech news site ZDNet has reported.
While curved screen technology, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge, is available in the current generation of smartphones, foldable screens could well prove the trend in coming years.
ZDNet reported a senior company executive as stating Samsung Display will launch a flexible display for smartphones that can be folded in half.
“We will secure production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 [flexible displays each month] by the end of next year,” Lee Chang-hoon, Samsung Display vice president of business strategic team, stated during the Samsung Investor Forum 2014 in New York, ZDNet reported.
“There will be no company [except Samsung] that has this great production capacity by 2016.
“We plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year. However, nothing has been decided on the finished product.”
