Budget Sharp Aquos Models Ditch LED For CCFL Backlighting

Budget Sharp Aquos Models Ditch LED For CCFL BacklightingThe new LC-40M500X, due out later this August, is a Full HD 40 incher that sits with a modest number of connectivity features under an $899 price tag.

As more of a budget model, Sharp has opted for CCFL backlighting rather than the common LED backlighting used in most new LCD screens from the mid-range and above. The backlighting comes standard on the lower-end models like Sharp’s 32 incher, also due out in late August for $599.

On the connection side, the 500X features an in-built digital tuner, digital-to-digital connections for hooking up AV equipment without a receiver as well as an array of analogue inputs and outputs direct to the TV.

USB media playback comes stocked on the unit for photo, audio and video playback from USB devices. HDMI and Aquos Link features come in tow for controlling multiple attached devices with the one remote.

On the sound side, the 500X is equipped with amplifiers feeding 10W per channel to its inbuilt speakers.
