Apple Issues iOS 11 Bug Fix Update A Week After Release
Apple has released the first update to iOS 11 for iPhone and iPad a week after the operating system was first released.
According to Apple’s note for the new update, iOS 11.0.1 “includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone or iPad”. The company did not specifically mention what changes had been made.
The document said that some email accounts using Outlook.com, Office 365 or Exchange will not be able to send emails without updating to iOS 11.0.1 or later.
It is not yet clear whether the update also addressed complaints about faster battery drain from some iPhone and iPad users on the latest software.
Mobile security company Wandera found that, after looking at a subset of 50,000 “moderate to heavy iPhone and iPad users”, iOS 11 was draining battery significantly faster than iOS 10.
The average battery decay rate for iOS 11 was found to be 96 minutes, compared to 240 minutes for iOS 10.
Potential explanations for the higher battery drain put forward by Wandera include re-indexing through the Spotlight search feature, along with new functionalities such as Animoji and FaceID.
