Floating Gig Heralds New Era For Samsung TV’s
Hundreds of dealers and media packed the Samsung event to see the new 2015 line-up of TV’s from the Company that has dominated the TV market with over 40% share for the past nine years.
TV’s were not a good category for retailers last year with the market slipping 16% overall, Samsung’s overall share of the market only fell 8% however the Company who in 2015 launched a bold new range of premium curved Ultra High Definition (UHD) TVs managed to lift revenue by 5%.
In 2014 they also took on Sonos with their new multi room audio system with the Korean Company now holding 20% of the overall wireless audio sound market.
In 2015 Samsung who is also launching a new 9.1 curved wireless speaker to match their premium range of curved TV’s is set to launch new TV technology that is wrapped around a Octa-core processor, also on board is six months of free Netflix and a brand new Tizen management system.
Samsung Vice President Philip Newton said that at a retail level the combination of breakthrough TV technology and the use of their own staff in key retail stores to sell the technology had led to Samsung outperforming their rivals.
Newton said “At Samsung we have brilliant display technology which needs to be explained at a store level which is why we have invested in Samsung trained people in key stores where Samsung TV’s are sold.
Market research firm DisplaySearch said earlier this week that Samsung took up 28.2 percent of the global smart TV, LG Electronics 15.2%, Sony 7.6% and Hisense 6.7%.
The combined market share of Korean brands Samsung and LG was 43.4 percent with both Companies set to go head to head in Australia this year in an effort to convince consumer to invest in large screen UHD TV’s that deliver the next generation of 4K TV technology.
Newton said that the new Samsung SUHD televisions were the new heroes of the company’s TV range and in an effort to convince consumer that “there really is a difference” Samsung is set to run in store comparisons between their arch rival’s products and their own.
He said the ultra-high-definition screens achieved “nearly twice the brightness” of other televisions by adding a layer of nanocrystals over the top of existing LED-backlit LCD panels and that in stores across Australia consumers will be able to see the difference they see a new Samsung TV in the flesh.
“I think the average Joe just need to see what it looks like. The proof is in the pudding. At the end of the day it’s just what the picture looks like,” Newton said.
Premium Samsung TV’s with the new SUHD technology will range in price from $4,999 for a Curved 55 inch (1.39m) model to $24,999 for a super bright 88 inches (2.23m) model.
The bright new models will attract a price premium over their UHD equivalents, with a gap of more than $4000 between the top two 65-inch TVs of either type.
Despite the high price for its top 88-inch model, and a $19,999 price tag on the 78-inch SUHD television, Mr Newton said Australia consumers had proven they were willing to spend big dollars to secure large screens with the latest TV technology.
