 Audio description will initially be available on Netflix’s new series Marvel’s Daredevil, which is based around visually impaired lawyer Matt Murdock, who, blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, fights injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the superhero Daredevil.
Users will have the option to add audio narration, describing what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes. Netflix has stated that more titles will be added in the coming weeks, including current and previous seasons of House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Marco Polo. Netflix expects that over time audio description will be available for major Netflix original series, as well as select other shows and movies, stating it is working with studios and other content owners to increase the amount of audio description across a range of devices, including smart TVs, tablets and smartphones. |
