 The EOS 5DS 50.6 MP CMOS sensor comprises the highest megapixels ever seen in a Canon full-frame sensor, while dual Digic 6 processors provide “rapid performance and responsiveness”, designed to “comfortably manage huge levels of image data” from the sensor.
The sensor provides ISO 100-6,400 sensitivity, expandable to 50-12,800, while the cameras’ resolution enables three new in-camera crop shooting modes, 1.3x, 1.6x and 1:1, providing stills at 19 MP when cropped to 1.6x. The cameras’ feature an advanced 61-point autofocus system, with 41 cross-type points, “delivering incredible levels of image sharpness and accuracy across the frame”, and are capable of high-speed continuous shooting at five frames per second. The EOS 5DS R additionally features a low-pass cancellation filter, maximising the sensor’s resolution and visible image quality. The EOS 5DS cameras are compatible with Canon’s EF lens range, comprising 71 models, with Canon also introducing the “world’s widest-angle” rectilinear zoom lens, the EF 11-24 mm f/4L USM. Canon states the lens features high-speed autofocus, a circular aperture, and a minimum focusing distance of 0.28 m when at a focal length of 24 mm, and sports a newly designed optical structure, with the lens featuring three aspherical lenses, including a ground aspherical element, maximising image quality and delivering minimal levels of distortion. The EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R will be available in June, with the new EF lens to be available in March. – EOS 760D and EOS 750D Meanwhile, Canon has additionally unveiled two entry-level DSLRs – the EOS 760D and EOS 750D.The new models each employ a 24.2 MP sensor, along with Canon’s Digic 6 image processor, and feature an ISO range of 100-12,800, five frames per second continuous shooting mode, and a 19 cross-type autofocus point system. Movies can be shot in full-HD resolution and in MP4 format, while Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities are designed for easy online sharing of images and video. “The EOS 750D is the ideal DSLR if you’re looking to capture stunning stills and full-HD movies of special memories with the assurance of automatic shooting modes, while the EOS 760D gives enthusiast photographers more creative freedom and manual controls to instinctively create impactful photography,” Canon states of the new cameras. The EOS 760D and EOS 750D will be available from April. – EOS M3 Canon has also added to its compact system camera line-up, revealing the EOS M3, which it states delivers DSLR-like performance.The EOS M3 is equipped with Canon’s first 24.2 MP APS-C CMOS sensor, features a 100-12,800 ISO range, a Digic 6 processor, and incorporates a new hybrid CMOS AF III and 49-point autofocus system. A 3.0″ LCD touchscreen tilts up 180 degrees and down 45 degrees to help shoot from all angles, while also providing access to the touch menu system found on EOS DSLRs. Movies can be shot in full-HD with a choice of 24p, 25p and 30p frame rates, and can be shot in MP4 format, while Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity provides for remote control of the camera and transfer of images. The EOS M3 will be available from April 2015 in black and white, with Canon stating pricing for its new models will be set at dealer discretion. |
