Xiaomi could beat Samsung to market with its next book-style foldable smartphone, as new leaks point to a potential July debut, which is earlier than the expected arrival of the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

According to reports emerging from China, the yet-to-be-named device will mark Xiaomi’s return to the premium foldable category following a one-year hiatus.

The company last released a book-style foldable with the Mix Fold 4 (pictured) in 2024, opting to focus on its clamshell lineup in 2025 with the Mix Flip 2.

If the July timeline holds, Xiaomi would be among the first to launch a flagship foldable in 2026, potentially gaining an early edge in an increasingly competitive market that includes devices like the Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6.

The new foldable is also expected to reflect a broader strategic shift within Xiaomi, with a stronger emphasis on in-house and locally sourced components.

Leaks suggest key elements such as the hinge mechanism and camera system are being developed internally, signalling a move toward greater supply chain control and reduced reliance on international suppliers.

The device’s branding remains unclear, with speculation ranging from a Mix Fold 5 successor to a possible rebrand aligned with Xiaomi’s newer naming conventions.

While details around specifications, pricing and global availability remain under wraps, Xiaomi’s re-entry into the segment comes at a critical time. Rivals, including Samsung, have continued refining their foldable offerings, while Apple is also rumoured to be preparing its first foldable iPhone.

Xiaomi has yet to confirm the device, but if the leaks prove accurate, Samsung may face renewed pressure in the foldable race sooner than expected.
