JBL Updates Xtreme And Go Speakers With AI Audio And Refreshed Design
JBL is refreshing two of its most popular portable speakers, unveiling updated versions aimed at improving sound performance and usability while keeping their familiar designs.
The new Xtreme 5 replaces the previous generation model released in 2024, while the compact Go 5 succeeds the smaller Go 4. Both devices introduce changes to audio output, battery performance and connectivity as part of the latest update.
The larger Xtreme 5 is designed to deliver stronger output than before, with JBL claiming around 10 per cent deeper bass alongside higher overall volume. The speaker features a revised internal setup that includes dual tweeters and a dedicated subwoofer, with a focus on reducing distortion at higher levels.
At the smaller end of the line-up, the Go 5 also receives audio improvements, with enhanced bass response compared with its predecessor. JBL attributes part of this to a redesigned structure, including changes to the outer casing that help improve sound projection.
A new SmartEQ feature powered by artificial intelligence has been introduced across both models. This automatically adjusts sound settings depending on what is being played, switching between music and spoken content without requiring manual input.
The Go 5 also adds a feature called AirTouch, which allows two speakers to be paired for stereo playback simply by tapping them together. Both models support USB-C audio, enabling higher-quality playback up to 24-bit/96kHz when connected via cable.

Battery life remains a key focus, with the Xtreme 5 offering up to 24 hours of use, plus an additional four hours through a power-saving mode. The Go 5 delivers around eight hours, with a further two hours available through the same feature.
Like other recent JBL speakers, both models support Auracast, allowing multiple compatible speakers to be connected for expanded sound coverage. Users can manage connections either through onboard controls or via the JBL mobile app.
The design has also been updated, with both speakers now featuring customisable edge lighting. Durability remains a priority, with each model rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.
The JBL Xtreme 5 is set to launch in April 2026 in a range of finishes including black, blue and camouflage, with pricing expected to be around A$640. The Go 5 will also arrive in April in several colour options, with an estimated price of about A$80.
Despite the updates, pricing remains broadly in line with previous models, suggesting JBL is aiming to build on its existing line-up rather than reposition it.
