Xiaomi Goes Big on Photography with Leica-Powered 17 Series, Expands Wearables
Xiaomi has launched its new Xiaomi 17 Series in Australia, headlined by the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, as the brand doubles down on premium imaging and expands its partnership with camera maker Leica.
Unveiled locally following Mobile World Congress, the range also includes the standard Xiaomi 17, with pricing starting at $1,399.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone position photography at the core of the offering.
Both devices feature a 1-inch 50MP main sensor with Leica optics, alongside a 200MP telephoto lens with mechanical zoom capabilities and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

The Ultra introduces Xiaomi’s new 1-inch LOFIC Light Fusion 1050L sensor, designed to improve HDR and low-light performance, while supporting Dolby Vision and Log recording at up to 4K 120fps.
The Leica Leitzphone takes the collaboration further, introducing a physical Leica Camera Ring and a stripped-back ‘Leica Essential’ shooting mode inspired by classic cameras such as the Leica M9 and M3.
It marks a shift from joint R&D to a “strategic co-creation” model.

The 17 Series runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
The Ultra packs a 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED display with 3,500 nits peak brightness and a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, while the Xiaomi 17 offers a 6.3-inch panel and a larger 6,330mAh battery with 100W wired charging.
Australian pricing is set at $1,799 for the 512GB Xiaomi 17 Ultra and $2,299 for the Leica Leitzphone (1TB). The Xiaomi 17 starts at $1,399 for 256GB.
Alongside the smartphones, Xiaomi introduced the $499 Xiaomi Watch 5, featuring a 1.54-inch display housed in a stainless steel frame and powered by a dual-chip architecture combining a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor with a low-power co-processor.
The hybrid setup is designed to balance performance and efficiency, delivering up to six days of battery life in standard mode and more than two weeks in power-saving mode.

The brand also launched the dual-network Xiaomi Tag tracker ($29.50), compatible with both Apple Find My and Google’s Find Hub, positioning it as a cross-platform option for households running mixed ecosystems.
The tag features encrypted location data and anti-stalking alerts, with over one year of battery life from a replaceable standard battery.

Xiaomi also unveiled the REDMI Buds 8 Pro ($119), offering up to 55dB of active noise cancellation, Dolby Audio support and multiple spatial audio modes.
The earbuds deliver up to eight hours of listening per charge, extending to 33 hours with the charging case.

Rounding up the lineup is the ultra-thin 5000mAh magnetic power bank supporting 15W wireless charging, available in black and silver for $129, as well as in orange for $149.
It features a 6mm aluminium alloy design and multiple fast-charging options.
