Vuzix Add SteamVR Support To iWear
Independent VR player Vuzix have announced the complete integration of Valve’s SteamVR software drivers with their Video iWear Headphones.
Vuzix’s iWear Headphones came to market late last year and, in the company’s own words, provide “users with a mobile wearable video display and gaming solution featuring dual high-definition displays.”
Integration with Valve’s Steam is expected to have a major impact on the amount of VR content available to users, adding support for approximately 300 new titles.
“By adding SteamVR support to our iWear Video Headphones, we open up a new world of games for our customers,” said Paul Travers, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vuzix.
“This makes it very compelling not only for distribution partners around the globe, but vastly gives our end-users another reason to embrace Vuzix technology. We had already begun to build a compelling library of game titles, but with SteamVR, we have expanded that library geometrically.”
SteamVR is also available officially through the HTC Vive and unofficially for the Oculus Rift and Gear VR.
Vuzix gained some notoriety a few years ago when they released moved into the same wearable tech niche that Google made a play for with Google Glass but have since pivoted towards VR.
The iWear Video Headphones are available online for $500.
