Samsung has revealed a new partnership with Turkish Airlines that will allow passengers to track misplaced or delayed luggage through SmartThings Find. The announcement comes at a time when the airline has also revealed its plans for non-stop flights between Sydney and Istanbul to begin late next year.

The two companies have introduced what they call the Smart Tagged Baggage Service. The system works by allowing travellers to place a Galaxy SmartTag inside their luggage before flying. If a bag goes missing, passengers can include a SmartThings Find location link in their lost baggage report to help staff pinpoint where it last appeared.

Passengers can also upload a photo of their own suitcase using the Change Device Image option inside the SmartThings app. This feature helps ground crews visually identify the correct bag if it has ended up in the wrong location.

SmartThings Find operates using Bluetooth Low Energy together with ultra-wideband signals to detect Galaxy devices. It relies on a large global network of more than 700 million devices that anonymously assist in locating lost items.

Turkish Airlines says the partnership aims to improve the travel experience as the carrier brings new long haul connections to Australia. Samsung has stated that it plans to expand the Smart Tagged Baggage Service to additional airlines over time.
