Tefal is targeting Australia’s growing number of single-person households with YumMeal, a compact appliance combining an air fryer and induction cooktop in a single unit.

Launching in Australia this month, YumMeal is designed specifically for cooking individual meals, with Tefal positioning the appliance as an alternative to using multiple pots, pans and serving dishes when preparing food for one person.

At its centre is a removable 1.2-litre bowl that can be used to prepare ingredients, cook the meal, serve food and store leftovers. The bowl has a cool-touch finish, allowing it to be removed from the appliance and used for eating once cooking is complete.

YumMeal combines two heating technologies, with induction heating operating beneath the bowl and an air fryer positioned above. This allows users to prepare a broader range of meals than would typically be possible with a conventional compact air fryer.

The relatively small footprint is also aimed at apartments and homes where kitchen bench space is limited.

Controls have been kept simple, with a three-button interface rather than a large touchscreen or extensive selection of automatic programs. The 1.2-litre bowl uses a pure steel enamel coating designed to resist scratching and simplify cleaning.

A storage lid is included, allowing the same bowl to be placed in the fridge with leftovers rather than transferring food into another container.

Tefal is also supporting the appliance through its MyTefal app, which provides access to more than 60 recipes developed for YumMeal. The company says each recipe can be completed in fewer than five steps and within 30 minutes.

The appliance arrives as Australian living and eating habits continue to change, with more consumers living alone, working from home and preparing meals at different times rather than cooking for an entire household.

Tefal is describing YumMeal as the world’s first 2-in-1 appliance to combine an air fryer and induction cooktop specifically for solo cooking.

YumMeal will be available for pre-sale in Australia from September 15, ahead of its official launch on September 22.

Priced at $399, it will initially be offered in black and sold through Tefal’s Australian website, Myer and Amazon Australia.
