Qantas will allocate Apple iPads to its passengers so they can access entertainment content while flying.

In-flight entertainment will be streamed from Q service to issued iPads at first, but the company is hoping travellers will take advantage of the technology through their notebooks, smartphones, tablets and other WiFi enabled devices.

“We are very pleased to be the first airline in the world to trial this wireless streaming product,” said Executive Manager Customer Experience Alison Webster.

The trial is a world’s first and will take place on its B767-300 domestic flights from late October to early December, running for 6 weeks. It will prove the technology can handle the strain of simultaneous content downloads.

If the trial is successful, Q streaming will be a free service that Qantas will consider integrating into their domestic and international flights.
