Standalone HTC Vive VR Headset Nearing Launch
HTC could soon launch a standalone Vive headset supporting virtual reality games and content without the need for a PC.
Teased by the company earlier this year as “the world’s most immersive VR without the cables”, the standalone headset is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor and support for Google’s Daydream platform.
The headset will also feature six degrees of freedom positional tracking.
HTC already announced a standalone VR headset in July, but the company said the device would only be available in China.
Vive Focus is expected to receive a wider launch, and could potentially be unveiled at Google’s upcoming event on October 5, where new Pixel smartphones are expected to be the main drawcard.
