Sony Interactive Entertainment has released a new generation of PlayStation audio products, introducing the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset for PS5 gamers.

Sony is pushing into higher-quality gaming audio with these new headsets. Both models feature custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers, which are designed for improved sound separation, detail and spatial accuracy.

The company says the larger planar drivers are designed to provide fuller and deeper bass while keeping the clarity needed for gaming. The technology is targeted at competitive players in particular, allowing for wearers to pick up on the precise location of audio like footsteps, reloads and other directional sounds.

Both headsets support Sony’s PlayStation Link wireless technology and each model comes with a USB-C adapter. PlayStation Link provides lossless, low-latency audio and allows the headsets to connect with compatible PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac devices. Bluetooth connectivity is also supported on compatible devices.

The standard Pulse Wireless Headset features four magnets per planar driver, an integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection, built-in volume controls and a redesigned form factor with rotating earcups, making them easy to pack away and carry around.

Positioned as the premium option, the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset doubles the number of magnets per planar driver to eight, adds active noise cancellation and has a detachable boom microphone and built-in game audio and chat balance controls for PS5.

The Pulse Edge also includes a hidden microphone that can be used when the boom mic is detached. Both of the microphones have AI-enhanced noise rejection.

The headsets are available in White and Midnight Black, with Sony describing the new designs as a refreshed approach to its PlayStation audio hardware.

Sony has not yet confirmed Australian pricing or release dates, although reports suggest the standard Pulse headset is expected later this year, with the Edge model to follow.Â
