Sony To Trim Bezels With Next 6-Inch Smartphone

New reports have suggested that Sony’s next flagship smartphone will be making its debut at this year’s IFA conference in Berlin.

There’s little word on the specs just yet, however , the reports suggest that the new 6-inch device will cut down on the wide bezels found in the Xperia XZ range  in order to match the 18:9 aspect ratio found in both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

While the former isn’t especially surprising – plenty of new flagships find their way onto the IFA show floor, after all – the latter detail is.

While even the ultra-conservative Apple has moved to minimise and eliminate bezels from their smartphones, Sony has held traditional bezel sizings as recently as the Xperia XZ Premium.

However, PhoneArena suggest that the involvement of Japan Display Inc could see this change.

A conglomerate of Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi’s display divisions, Japan Inc recent announced it would begin mass production of a “Full Active LCD display which has a slim bezel design on all four display sides, and a display aspect ratio of 18:9 for smartphone devices.”

Expect more news to emerge in the lead up to this year’s IFA conference in Berlin.
