Sony could be preparing to broaden its Inzone gaming range with a new headset aimed at lowering the cost of entry for players.

Early reports suggest the company is developing a model that takes a different approach from its existing premium offerings, potentially introducing an open-ear or open-back design at a more accessible price point. This style of headset is typically associated with higher-end audio products and is known for delivering a wider, more natural soundstage.

The device is expected to be called the Inzone H6 Air and may sit below current models such as the Inzone H9 II. If accurate, this would mark a shift in Sony’s gaming audio strategy, bringing a feature usually reserved for enthusiast headphones into a more affordable segment.

Open-back designs are not commonly found in lower-priced gaming headsets, as they prioritise sound quality and spatial awareness over noise isolation. This makes them appealing for players who value immersion, although they are less suited to noisy environments.

Reports indicate the headset could be announced as soon as mid-April in the US, with availability following shortly after. Pricing is expected to land at around A$310, positioning it as a cheaper alternative within Sony’s over-ear gaming line-up.

Details around specifications remain limited, but there are indications that some features may be scaled back to reach this lower price. The headset could rely on a wired connection rather than offering Bluetooth or low-latency wireless options, suggesting it is not intended to compete directly with Sony’s higher-end wireless models.

Instead, the focus appears to be on delivering a different kind of listening experience for gamers who prioritise audio performance over convenience, offering a simpler option within the Inzone range.

Release date and pricing for Australia have not yet been confirmed.
