Samsung Wants To Release A Foldable Smartphone Next Year

Samsung said it is aiming to release a foldable smartphone next year.

At a launch event for the Galaxy Note 8 in South Korea, Samsung Electronic’s Mobile Communications Business president DJ Koh said the company hoped to overcome a number “technological barriers” so it could release a foldable smartphone in its Galaxy Note range in 2018.

“We don’t want to just sell a couple of the phones. We want it to be mass-ready and at a technological level where people will say it is a well-made phone,” Koh said according to ZDNet.

He did not address what the barriers it needed to overcome were, or provide any additional details about the unannounced Galaxy Note smartphone.

Samsung is also working with its subsidiary Harman to develop a smart speaker according to Koh. Last month Koh said the device could be announced “soon”.
