Samsung Electronics Australia has lifted the lid on a new range of external storage options, the most notable of which is the T7 Shield Portable SSD.

According to the company’s Senior Director of Display and Brand Memory, Phil Gaut, the new range provides an unparalleled combination of speed, ruggedness and security – something that the creative market is in need of.

“Creative professionals and consumers want durable, high-performance and reliable SSDs with the assurance their data can remain safeguarded, even when dropped, exposed to fresh water or used outdoors.”

“The T7 Shield also offers extensive compatibility, enabling consumers to use the new SSD on multiple compatible devices including PC, android smartphones, and game consoles.”

Samsung’s new SSD has options for 1TB or 2TB storage, and boasts a read speed of up to 1,050MB/s and a write speed of 1,000 MB/s, making them the fastest USB 3.2 Gen2 fitted SSDs ever. It’s also twice as fast as the T5 Shield it’s replacing, and up

The T7 Shield has a durability rating of IP65 for protection against water and dust, and has been shock tested from drops up to 3 meters. Despite this, portability is unaffected, as the device only weights 98 grams.

Alongside the T7 Shield Portable SSD, Samsung announced the availability of their Pro Endurance SD cards and announced the release of their USB Type-C Flash Drives.

The T7 Shield and the rest of the range are now available from the Samsung Online Store and will be available for retail purchase in July. The 1TB SSD has an RRP of $239 while the 2TB has an RRP of $459.
