Samsung Delays 89-inch MicroLED TV Production
Samsung has pushed back the production schedule for the 89-inch version of its MicroLED TVs.
Production for both the 89-inch and 101-inch models was scheduled to begin in May, with the 89-inch now pushed back to the third quarter of the year. Samsung is yet to firm up a new production start date for the 101-inch.
Despite this, Samsung will begin producing its 99-inch model during the current quarter.
The 99-inch model uses different board technology to the 89- and 101-inch, with the former using printed circuit boards, and the later using low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFT).
The 89-inch will use smaller LED chips, which often means more of them become defective during the process in which the chips are attacjed to the substrate. This has led to a lower-than-usual yield rate, which may have led to the delayed start date.
Samsung has not given a firm reason for the production delays.
