SA CIO Sacked Criminal Charges Follow

The South Australian Government has sacked the Premier’s Department chief information officer Veronica Theriault, pictured, after she had spent just seven weeks in the job.

Theriault was arrested late last week and is now facing criminal charges for alleged dishonesty involving the means she used to gain the high government post.

SA Police have charged Theriault with deception, dishonestly dealing with documents and abuse of public office between May 24 and June 27 this year.

She had been hired for the CEO position in August after it was advertised in May with a salary of up to $244,000.

Another public servant, Alan Corkhill, has been charged with deception and aiding and abetting Theriault. The two have been bailed and will appear in court in November.

Premier Jay Weatherill has asked the Department of Premier and Cabinet for an urgent review into how the pair were hired. And the SA Independent Commissioner Against Corruption, a body created in 2013, has launched an investigation into the Government’s recruitment processes.
