Telstra phase II of its 4G technology roll-out in Newcastle will see ultra-fast 4G mobile coverage hit 10 new suburbs “in the coming months.”
Among the ‘burbs being 4G-ed include: Broadmeadow, Callaghan, Georgetown, Jesmond, Kotara East, Lambton, Mayfield, Mayfield West, Waratah and Waratah West.
And 4G a la Telstra is among the fastest internet speeds in the world says Chris Cusack, Newcastle’s Area Manager.
The next gen network taking over from 3G is now available in more than 100 regional and metropolitan centres in OZ – including the eight capital city CBDs, associated airports and select regional areas.
4G users can enjoy often doubled 3G speeds with typical downloads of 2Mbps – 40Mbps, uploads of 1Mbps – 10Mbps.
The blue telco have gone hell for leather on 4G – releasing network ready handsets from Samsung’s Galaxy S II, HTC Velocity as well as mobile hotspots.
To date Telstra is the only next gen LTE 4G network in Australia – with Optus due to roll it equivilent out this month, although no sign, so far.
“Telstra’s continued investment in the network means more residents and businesses can soon experience some of the fastest mobile internet speeds available anywhere in the world,” says Chris Cusack, Newcastle’s Area Manager.
“The leap in internet speeds available on 4G means customers can stream HD video and music over the internet, download songs faster, video chat with fewer interruptions and enjoy rich internet content traditionally confined to a fixed home or business internet connection when they’re on the move.”
4G Newcastle phase II is scheduled to commence “shortly” and will double the 4G coverage available in the Newcastle area when completed later this year.
The telco is setting up a 4G experience zone in Marketown Shopping Centre this week located directly outside the Telstra Store.where residents can get hands on with the latest 4G smartphones, tablets and broadband devices.
The zone is open 9am to 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
