Thats according to security boss, Eugene Kaspersky, the head of security giant Kaspersky Lab, who predicts the Mac maker could be facing major issues with its security software systems – identical to those Microsoft experienced 10 years ago.

This warning comes in the wake of Apple’s recent infection which saw more than half a million Macs, including hundreds in Australia, hit by malware virus Flashback Trojan.

Apple released a security update after a time, although Norton warned there was was thousands machines still infected with the deadly virus and other experts also criticised the slowness of Apple’s response.

“They will understand very soon that they have the same problems Microsoft had 10 or 12 years ago,” Kaspersky told Computer Business Review, of Apple potential security dilemma.

“They will have to make changes in terms of the cycle of updates and so on and will be forced to invest more into their security audits for the software.”

“That’s what Microsoft did in the past after so many incidents like Blaster and the more complicated worms that infected millions of computers in a short time,” he added.

Microsoft had their work cut out to check the code to find mistakes and vulnerabilities at that time.

“Now it’s time for Apple [to do the same],” says Kaspersky.
