Microsoft has announced two new additions to its Surface line-up, announcing a 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus processor.

Brett Ostrum, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Surface Devices, announced the new models at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. Both devices are scheduled to launch on October 13, 2026.

According to Microsoft, the Snapdragon X2 Plus-powered Surface devices deliver up to 17% faster performance in Office workloads and are up to 18% more battery efficient than their predecessors. Graphics performance is claimed to be more than 60% faster.

Microsoft is also highlighting their AI capabilities. Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU delivers 80 TOPS (trillion operations per second), which Microsoft says translates to up to 95% faster local AI performance.

The Surface Pro 12-inch (2026) is a Windows 11 tablet powered by a six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. It can be configured with either 16GB or 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Its 12-inch LCD display has a resolution of 2196 x 1464 and supports refresh rates of up to 90Hz. Microsoft says the display is 25% brighter than the previous model, while the device will also be available in a new black colour.

Battery life is rated at up to 15.5 hours for local video playback and 13 hours of web browsing.

The Surface Pro 12-inch will start at US$1,149.99 in the US and A$1,999 in Australia, with UK pricing yet to be confirmed.

The Surface Laptop 13-inch (2026), meanwhile, uses the same six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus processor and offers the same 16GB or 24GB memory and 256GB or 512GB storage configurations.

It features a 13-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1280 and a 60Hz refresh rate. Microsoft says its 500-nit display is also 25% brighter than the previous generation.

Connectivity includes two USB-C (USB 3.2) ports, one USB-A port and a 3.5mm headphone jack, alongside Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Microsoft claims the Surface Laptop can deliver up to 22.5 hours of battery life on a single charge.

The Surface Laptop 13-inch will start at US$1,199 in the US and A$2,099 in Australia. Like the new Surface Pro, it will go on sale on October 13.
