EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear group behind Ray-Ban and Oakley, has reported higher third-quarter revenue, supported by continued demand for smart glasses developed in partnership with Meta.

The Franco-Italian company recorded revenue of €7.49 billion (approximately A$12.03 billion) for the three months to September 2026, which represents a 7.2% increase year on year at constant exchange rates, or 9% at current exchange rates. The result exceeded analyst expectations of approximately €7.37 billion, according to market estimates.

The growth comes as smart glasses become an increasingly important part of the company’s business.

Revenue from EssilorLuxottica’s wearables business, which includes AI-powered glasses and Nuance Audio hearing solutions, increased 20% during the quarter. The company reported wearable revenue of €486 million (approximately A$780.5 million), accounting for approximately 6.5% of total quarterly revenue.

The results highlight the contribution of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses range.

However, smart glasses sales rose 20% in the third quarter, compared with growth of nearly 100% in the previous quarter, according to Reuters. The slower rate partly reflects a change in momentum from when the glasses were first launched.

Despite this, demand for connected eyewear remains a significant growth driver for the business.

Beyond wearables, EssilorLuxottica reported growth across its wider portfolio of eyewear, eyecare and medical technology products.

The company said revenue from its traditional eyecare, eyewear and MedTech activities increased by more than 6% in both the third quarter and the first nine months of 2026. Its myopia management portfolio also recorded 24% growth during the quarter.

All geographic regions contributed to quarterly growth, with Asia-Pacific in particular driving strong performance. The region’s revenue increased 15.7% at constant exchange rates, while North America, the group’s largest market, recorded more moderate growth.

EssilorLuxottica expects continued solid revenue growth and broadly aligned increases in adjusted operating profit for its five year outlook, though it didn’t outline any specific figures.

The results highlight the growing role of smart glasses in the global eyewear market, while also showing that EssilorLuxottica’s already-established optical and healthcare businesses continue to contribute to its overall performance.
