Individuals quizzed between the ages of 18 to 85 found it harder to resist jumping on Facebook than on their partners, a study by University of Chicago Booth School of Business research found.

The research, conducted in Germany, found participants felt the urge engage on social media, Facebook and Twitter more than other traditionally addictive vices including smoking, sex, drinking and even sleeping.

“Desires for media may be comparatively harder to resist because of their high availability and also because it feels like it does not cost much to engage in these activities, even though one wants to resist,” Wilhelm Hofmann, the study’s lead author, told the Los Angeles Times.

Surprisingly, work was another urge that people were unable to resist above shopping or sex.
