Canadian loudspeaker manufacturer PSB Speakers has launched a new iQ Series of all-in-one streaming speakers, as the battle for premium wireless audio systems heats up.

The range launches with two models, the iQ1 and iQ2, both designed to deliver high-fidelity stereo sound without the need for a traditional amplifier, streamer and speaker stack.

Built on the same acoustic platform as PSB’s Alpha iQ, the new models add a TI Burr Brown Class-D amplifier platform, cloth grilles, upgraded finishes and BluOS multi-room streaming.

Both models support high-resolution playback up to 24-bit/192kHz and give users access to more than 20 streaming services through BluOS. They also support Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Bluetooth with aptX Adaptive.

The iQ1 (pictured above) is the entry model and uses a wired stereo cable to connect the primary and secondary speakers, keeping both channels in sync. It will be available in black or white.

The higher-end iQ2 (below) uses a low-latency wireless link between the left and right speakers and comes in seven finishes, including red, green, grey, beige and a premium walnut veneer with copper-finished accents.

Both models use a 4-inch polypropylene mid-bass driver and 0.75-inch aluminium dome tweeter, with total system power rated at 270 watts per pair.

PSB Product Manager Mack Tommy said the company was targeting customers who want “true high-fidelity sound without the complexity of traditional separates”.

The speakers are also designed to work beyond music playback. Both models include HDMI eARC for TV, movies and gaming, a built-in MM phono preamp for turntables, RCA and optical inputs, USB-C audio and a subwoofer output with DSP-enabled low-pass and high-pass filters.

Top-panel touch controls provide access to volume, playback and two custom presets, while BluOS also allows integration with Control4, Crestron, Nice, RTI and URC smart home systems.

The iQ2 is priced from US$1,399, with the Walnut Veneer version priced at US$1,499 and due in November. The iQ1 will launch on August 10 for US$999.

Australian pricing and availability have not yet been confirmed.
