First up it was LG Electronics OLED panels now Samsung has turned to the world’s largest TV manufacturing Company TCL for their new 98″ flagship 8K ‘Neo QLED’ LCD TV.
The all new QN990C has a TCL panel according to the Chinese Company with analysts claiming the big difference today between TV’s, is not the panel but the processor and the operating system and this is where brands such as Samsung and LG excel.
The new 98-inch QN990C is part of Samsung’s ‘Neo QLED’ range and sits on top of the existing QN900C 8K model.
It features an 8K LCD panel, MiniLED zone dimming, a 6.4.4-channel 120W speaker system with Dolby Atmos, Tizen OS with access to apps, and the slim ‘Infinite One’ design.
The 1.3 GHz Quad Core Processor makes the Samsung TV three times faster than a conventional TV because it allows for smoother multitasking, faster web browsing and quicker boot-up.
Samsung has not commented on the launch plans for the Australian market with the new TV set to be shown at IFA in Berlin in early September.
In South Korea, the 98-inch QN990C will cost around A$60,000.
Samsung said that sales of 98-inch TVs in its home country of South Korea nearly doubled in the first half of the year compared to last year.
Yesterday TCL issued press release to confirm that it is the supplier of not only the 98-inch 8K LCD panel in the Samsung QN990C but also the 98-inch 4K LCD panel in Samsung and Sony’s 98-inch 4K LCD TVs.
A TCL spokesperson said, “After releasing QN900C 8K Series televisions in 75 and 85 inches, Samsung, with support from TCL CSOT, has finally added to its offering the 98-inch QNC990 globally,”.
“TCL CSOT’s production lines enable efficient production of 98-inch LCD panels, giving them an advantage over 100-inch panels, which can only be produced by the G8.6 generation line. We at TCL CSOT have achieved remarkable success and reputation in this field, with our self-produced 98-inch 4K panel products being widely adopted by renowned brands such as Samsung, Sony, and TCL.
