Plane Carrying Queen Elizabeth II’s Coffin Most Tracked In History
Even after her tragic passing, Queen Elizabeth II is still making waves around the world, after the flight carrying her coffin became the most tracked in history.
The RAF Globemaster C-17 using the callsign “Kittyhawk” (used for any military flight carrying the Queen), was tracked by 4.79 million people on the Flightradar24 website, with another 296,000 watching it on a YouTube livestream.
Yesterday, 5 million people followed the aircraft carrying Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin from Edinburgh to London, making it the all-time most tracked flight. https://t.co/sCCrSaetAS pic.twitter.com/yr7ThIKl3X

This more than doubles the previous record, when a flight carrying US Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi drew in 2.2 million viewers on the website last month. Her flight took her to Taiwan, despite warnings from China.
Despite Flightradar24 saying that it had expected a huge influx of traffic and had taken precautions to prepare for her majesty’s final voyage, the site suffered from disruptions and degradation of the stream.
“Based on our experience [with Nancy Pelosi’s flight] last month, we expected a large influx of users, but this immediate, massive spike was beyond what we had anticipated.”
“Even though our platform suffered under such heavy load, Queen Elizabeth II’s final flight from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt is by far the all-time most tracked flight on Flightradar24 and will likely remain at the top for a long while.”
