Philips has introduced a new fully automatic coffee machine called the Baristina Bar Pro 500, expanding its home coffee appliance line-up. The model has launched in China and is currently available for pre-order through JD.com at a price of about A$1,160.

One of the standout features of the Bar Pro 500 is its ability to produce cold brew coffee much faster than traditional methods. While conventional cold brew preparation can take up to 12 hours, the new machine uses specialised extraction technology that can deliver a similar style of coffee in around 90 seconds. The system also includes a zero-preheat design that allows users to begin brewing within roughly one minute of starting the machine.

The Bar Pro 500 uses Philips’ AuraPress cold extraction system, which combines low temperature brewing with controlled pressure and slow liquid flow. According to the company, this method is designed to produce smooth cold brew coffee with balanced flavour while meeting the SCAA Golden Cup brewing standard. The machine also features a pump capable of delivering up to 16 bar pressure, supporting consistent espresso extraction and crema formation.

Philips has designed the appliance with a compact footprint intended to suit smaller spaces such as apartment kitchens or office workstations. The unit measures about 19 centimetres wide and occupies a surface area comparable to that of a laptop computer. Its exterior features a cool-toned metallic finish paired with fir wood accents, giving the machine a modern and minimalist appearance.

Inside the machine is a ceramic disc grinder designed to process coffee beans with minimal heat and wear. Philips says the material used in the grinder is about 2.3 times harder than traditional metal grinders, which may help preserve the natural flavour of the beans over time. The grinder works with the company’s BeanSync 2.0 system, which automatically adjusts brewing parameters based on the roast profile of the beans, including dark, medium or light roasts.

The Bar Pro 500 supports several drink options including espresso, lungo and iced coffee. Users can adjust the coffee strength and choose cup sizes ranging from 70 millilitres to 200 millilitres. The machine includes a 1.2 litre water reservoir and a bean hopper with capacity for about 170 grams of coffee beans.

Maintenance has also been simplified with a dry-wet separation design that helps prevent coffee grounds from accumulating inside internal components. A quick-release puck system allows used coffee grounds to be removed easily after brewing.

With its compact design and fast cold brew capability, Philips appears to be targeting coffee drinkers who want café-style beverages at home without the lengthy preparation normally associated with cold extraction brewing.
