Panasonic has announced a series of firmware updates for its full-frame mirrorless LUMIX S1RII, S1II and S1IIE cameras, designed to enhance hybrid shooting capabilities and streamline workflow.

The updates come alongside a new version of the LUMIX Flow smartphone app, which integrates more tightly with camera functions for remote control and live monitoring.

Panasonic says the improvements are heavily influenced by user feedback from the LUMIX community.

Key enhancements include:

  • Improved thermal control: The updated algorithm helps maintain recording performance in varying environmental conditions, reducing interruptions from overheating.
  • Expanded SH Burst shooting: Users can now access a lower-speed option for burst photography, including pre-burst shooting.
  • Advanced autofocus: New settings allow auto-recognition frames for main subjects and customizable human eye AF frame shapes, while AF tracking stability has been improved.
  • Video upgrades: A new MP4 (Lite) low-bitrate format enables efficient 3.8K recording at 29.97p/25p with 50Mbps.
  • Lens compatibility: Enhanced support for the LUMIX S 100-500mm F5-7.1 O.I.S. lens and teleconverters improves shooting flexibility.

The LUMIX Flow app adds features such as LUT view assist, multiple frame marker displays and improved autofocus frame visualisation, allowing photographers to monitor and adjust shots in real time from their smartphone.

Other refinements include improved focus stacking processing, enhanced display consistency between standby and recording modes, a 1.6x anamorphic desqueeze display option and clearer ISO settings.

Panasonic has also adjusted sub-video recording button defaults for better workflow efficiency.
