On the day Amazon Australia was tipped to launch its ‘Black Friday’ sale, many Australian retailers have offered a counterpunch, rolling out their own ultra-competitive ‘one day only’ promotions.
However, as the e-commerce giant has [thus far] failed to launch, the question becomes whether today’s exorbitant promotions could impede the volume of Christmas sales, as many consumers ‘stock up’ and take advantage of crazy prices. The impact of this is especially notable, given Australia’s smaller market size compared to the United States.
As reflected below, many Aussie retailers have already starting undercutting one another – JB Hi-Fi has offered Samsung’s highly praised Galaxy Note 8 smartphone at $999 (down from RRP$1499), whilst Harvey Norman has come in at $978.
Different retailers have also rolled out accompanying sales post-Black Friday, varying in dates and terms. For example, JB Hi-Fi is promoting its “Four Day Price Frenzy”, whilst Harvey Norman is pushing a seven day sale.
Here’s what some of the country’s top consumer electronics retailers are offering within their ‘”Black Friday” sales:
