Oppo Light Up The End Of Jan With New R9S

Chinese smartphone player Oppo are looking to shore up their local offerings with their new R9S handset.

Building on the accomplishments of last year’s R9 and R9 Plus (and borrowing the branding strategy of Apple), the R9S looks to provide major gains for Oppo when it comes to camera.

They’re also promising improvements when it comes to the device’s fingerprint sensor and VOOC Fast-Charge functionality.

The company say the R9S’ 16-megapixel rear camera comes augmented with a new Sony IMX398 sensor that promises to provide “clear and beautiful images at a moment’s notice”.

According to Michael Tran, Executive Director at OPPO Australia, “Camera technology is becoming increasingly important for Aussie consumers when choosing a smartphone, especially since we no longer carry around digital cameras wherever we go. Instead, we want to capture high quality images and videos on our smartphones at a moment’s notice. The upgrades we have made to the R9s allows users to do just that”.

“We have intentionally focused on our camera technology to ensure we provide premium features and functionality at a price that doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. Only OPPO can deliver these flagship camera innovations at a compelling price and we expect the R9s will be snapped up by Aussie consumers,” Train said.

Oppo made their move into JB Hi-Fi and Woolworths last year following the implosion of Dick Smith, who Oppo originally partnered with for their entry into the Australian market.

“OPPO saw significant growth in 2016 and we expect this to continue in 2017, with the launch of the R9s. We are quickly becoming the favourite affordable premium device amongst consumers, thanks to the high-end features, performance and functionality usually found on flagship devices. This has seen us add two new carriers to our ranks in Vodafone and Virgin Mobile, enabling us to get more of our devices into the hands of consumers,” says Tran.

The new device will be available for pre-order from OPPO directly today and generally available from partners like JB Hi-Fi and Big W from January 30th for an RRP of $598.
