Online Retailer Nobbled Over Dangerous Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker

Online retailer Groupon Australia has been forced to recall an outdoor Bluetooth speaker that could fail when charged causing a fire.

Product Safety Australia said that the outdoor Bluetooth audio speakers with a “f” logo on the front said that consumers who have purchased one of these speakers from Groupon, should “dispose of the product immediately”.

This follows an investigation that revealed that ‘There may be a failure of the over-charging prevention circuit in the Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker, due to an incompatible USB charger.”

They also said that the device suffered from poor battery quality’.

If this defect occurs, this poses a fire risk, which may result in injury or property damage.

They have warned that consumers should stop using the speakers and are asked to dispose of the product immediately.

To receive a refund, owners can visit https://www.groupon.com.au/customer_support#contact-us (link is external), and sign in to contact the Groupon Customer Services team.

Select the topic “Goods Shipping and Returns” and then select “I want to return the item I received”, then click “No, I Still Need Help”. Contact us through the chat.

Ensure that you provide the code “SPKR1″ in your correspondence and include written confirmation that you have disposed of the product. You will receive a full refund including shipping fees from Groupon.

The device was sold between 19 October 2017 – 3 January 2018
