Older Aussies Flocking To Digital Communication Services: ACMA

Australia’s Covid-19 restrictions have led to more older Australians than ever before using digital communications, including social media apps.

Research from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) shows the number of people aged 75 and over who use social media doubled from 18 percent in June 2019, to 41 percent in June 2020.

For older Australians, e-mailing increased from 37 percent in 2019 to 81 percent in 2020. Overall, some 77 percent of Australians in June 2020 are said to have used an app to make voice calls, video calls or send messages in the last six months.
