OAIC Launches Medibank Probe

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is the latest to launch a probe into Medibank’s handling of sensitive customer data.

The OAIC told Medibank, it would launch an investigate into the complaint lodged by law firm Maurice Blackburn in December following the cyber attack exposed personal data, including medical records, of close to ten million past and present customers.

“The OAIC advised it will proceed with the investigation of the representative complaint at the same time as the Commissioner’s own investigation,” Medibank said in a statement.

“Medibank continues to support its customers from the impact of the cybercrime through our previously announced Cyber Response Support Program which includes mental health and wellbeing support, identity protection and financial hardship measures.”
