Asus new 7-inch phablet (phone and tablet), Fonepad, is hitting down under early June. It’s not just an Android tablet – you can make calls on the 2-in-1 via built-in microphone or Bluetooth headset.
With 3G HSPA+ (3G+) voice and data it has “all the features of a smartphone” says Asus, and the features of a 7-inch tablet, including 1080p Full HD video decoding, large display good for reading online and watching videos, YouTube, and running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The metallic design FonePad has a 7″ WXGA HD (1280 X 800) LED Backlight IPS display (10 finger multi-touch), Intel’s new Atom Z2420 processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0.
Fonepad can be held comfortably in one hand, weighing 340g and slim 10.4mm profile.
Starting at $329, it’s not bad for a 2-in-1 ‘phablet’ (and means only one mobile bill to pay), which have become all the rage with the popularity of Samsung Galaxy Note.
FonePad was first launched at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress in February, but Asus have been pushing the phablet button for some time now.
It comes in 8 GB (Intel Atom Z2420 1.2GHz) and 32GB model (Atom Z2460 1.6GHz) and has an SD card slot for up to 32GB of additional storage, and also comes with 5GB lifetime free storage.
The 8GB costs $329 whilst 16GB is $399.

“The incorporation of 3G mobile data with full telephony support, makes the Fonepad the perfect combination of a tablet and phone in one single device.”
ASUS Fonepad has “exclusive” work apps: Floating App for managing running apps and multi-tasking; SuperNote lite for handwritten notes and drawing; and WebStorage Office Online for Microsoft Office-compatible document editing.
