If there is one smartphone range in the world, that Apple tries to compete with it’s the Galaxy S series, in particular the Samsung Ultra model, shortly a new S24 Ultra is set to be released with a new camera rig that takes mobile photography to a new level.

Last week I walked into a retail store in Byron Bay where a photo shoot was taking place, while an SLR camera was being used along with an abundance of lighting gear, the photographer suddenly pulled out a new top end iPhone 15 to take a picture, I asked him do you mind….I then shot the same image using the current model Samsung S23 Ultra.

I then asked him to blow up his image while I enlarged my image, the difference was significant.

Colour saturation and above all sharpness was significantly better on the S23 Ultra.

Being an Apple fan, he said that he had always used an Apple iPhone but after seeing the difference he was to say the least “Impressed”.

Now we hear that Samsungs next Galaxy S24 is set to get a new ultra telephoto and periscope zoom camera, along with new camera capability.

The new camera rig is tipped to include:

A 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom and a new GMU sensor, which features a 1/2.25″ sensor.
The final aperture for the 5x telephoto camera is expected to be approximately f/3.2.
Also on board is a 200-megapixel primary camera with a sensor size of 1/1.3″ and 0.6μm pixel size.
A 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera featuring the IMX564 sensor with a 1/2.55″ sensor size and 1.4μm pixel size.
A 10-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom) with the IMX754+ sensor, which has a 1/3.52″ sensor size and 1.12μm pixel size.

Samsung is bringing back 100x zoom capability, despite its 5x optical zoom.

Expected to launch in Q1 2025 the new S24 range is tipped to also use 4x and 6x telephoto lenses and replace laser autofocus with a new Vizion sensor.

Both “Vizion 44” and “Vizion 55” have completed development, with the possibility of Samsung opting for the “Vizion 55” with a 1/6.4-inch sensor size and real-time 60fps depth image capabilities.

As far as the selfie camera is concerned, it is expected to retain the 12-megapixel front camera, which was introduced on the S23 Ultra.
