Australians can now find out when they will be able to connect to the National Broadband Network following an update to the NBN website.
An updated address checker function now provides customers with an estimated availability timeframe and technology at their individual address, which may be updated during the continuing rollout to reflect any necessary changes.
“The sheer size and complexity of the network build means there will always be a need for flexibility on our technology choice and service availability dates,” said John Simon, NBN’s Chief Customer Officer.
Before the update, the address checker only provided an estimate of when NBN construction would begin in a particular area.
“We have moved away from telling people when we’ll be building in their neighbourhood to when they can contact their retailer to buy a service,” Mr Simon said.
“The change means we can better meet the interests of our retail customers as well as the Australian homes and businesses which will benefit from fast broadband services powered by the nbn™ network.”
NBN said the network is being made available to 60,000 new homes and businesses each week on average. The rollout of the network has currently reached one third of Australians, and expected to reach the half way milestone mid-year before completion in 2020.
