Motorola invented the flip phone, and now they have filed a new patent for a reverse-flip phone.

Basically, what we are seeing with this patent is a flip phone that bends backwards, with the display bending outwards rather than inwards.

It’s not apparent what the actual use for this might be; other than allowing two people facing each other to see the same tiny half-screen, or giving users double the chance of scratching their screen, it doesn’t seem a very practical function.

Of course, this is one of many patents Motorola file each year, so it’s a long way from bringing the Reverse Flip to market.
